World Ocean week 8th to 12th June, 2020 shed light on our troubled relationship with the marine environment and the inspired initiatives to find sustainable solutions. This year’s theme was Innovation for a Sustainable Ocean. Human activity from freight to fishing must adjust to a new reality, if we are to restore the balance. So, what does this mean for the yachting community?
Surprising as it may seem, this sector is a hotbed of innovative technologies, designed to minimise negative impacts on our precious oceans. A new breed of yacht owners are driving ethical advances such as the move from diesel to hybrid technology. They tend to value experiences over possessions, which drives them to push the boundaries of what is possible. Their commitment to the marine environment supports the rapid evolution of ecologically sound engineering.
