Dr Johnathan Rothberg is an American scientist, chemical engineer, biologist, inventor and entrepreneur. In short, the man is a genius. He first came to our notice as owner of the 55m Gene Machine. An elegant yacht, equipped with fully functional laboratories, Gene Machine is a dedicated research vessel, as well as a stunning holiday venue for friends and family.
The 55m Gene Chaser is the support vessel in service to Gene Machine. Equipped with floating laboratories and research facilities, Gene Chaser can accommodate up to eight researchers, four full time scientists and a crew of seven.
“We are going to go after genes to combat global warming and clean up the oceans and the air. That’s why it’s the Gene Chaser. In our planet’s very genes lie the answers to our biggest challenges and the key to our salvation.” Dr Rothberg told Boat International.
In addition to his ground-breaking scientific achievements in genomics, high speed gene sequencing and diagnostic tools, Dr Rothberg is a devoted family man. The father of five enjoys giving his children new and exciting experiences. One of his main objectives is to use Gene Chaser to unlock the ocean’s secrets, the other equally important aim is to separate time spent on research and time spent with family and friends.
